The Pennsylvania Workers Compensation Act allows employers to establish physician panels for Worker's Compensation injuries. Physician panels provide access to prompt medical treatment for injured employees.
Panel Composition
Employers may designate panels of at least six health care providers, including at least three physicians. The employer should list the health care providers on a posting notice placed in a conspicuous place on the employer's premises.
Employees must treat with a panel Physician
The injured employee must seek treatment from one of the designated providers for at least ninety days from the first visit.
How to implement a panel
Contact you Agent or the local ERIE Branch Office to start the process of identifying physicians to serve on the panel.
Have employee sign the form
The employee must sign the enclosed Employee's Acknowledgment of Physician Panel form. This form:
» Records that the employer informed the employee of their rights under the Worker's Compensation Act
» Shows that the employee understood those rights
Form signed twice
The employee should sign the acknowledgement form when hired and as soon as possible after the injury occurs.
Factors in Selecting a Physician Panel
The following factors are considered when selecting a health care provider to serve on a Policyholder's panel:
» Quality care
» Availability to provide care promptly after an injury occurs
» Specialties in types of injuries peculiar to a specific employment
» Willingness to provide reports to the insurance carrier
» Willingness to communicate employees progress
» Geographic proximity
